CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 had an extremely controversial and contentious launch in 2020. Essentially, the game was broken. Five years hence and it—in my opinion—has more than delivered on the initial promises shown in early promotional materials.
I’ll even go so far as to say this, with no ironic hyperbole, Cyberpunk 2077 is my favorite piece of media of all time. It’s my favorite piece of entertainment I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. It’s better than my favorite movie, book, song, comic, .etc. I played it for over a thousand hours—more than any game I’ve ever played—and I feel like every hour played was justified.
I’ve never experienced anything that provided genuine mood, emotion, ambience, and a feeling that a fictional world was a real place. I genuinely cared about many of the characters and the exceptional writing, animation, art design, lighting, etc. constructed personalities that I feel are out there somewhere living and breathing and carrying on lives of desperation.
The last main update for the game was a piece of downloadable content called Phantom Liberty, a massive extension of the main storyline that introduces an entirely new location called Dogtown, new characters, new weapons, vehicles, and a variety of upgrades and additions to the character creation tool among others.
It was expected for CDPR to move on from Cyberpunk 2077 in the wake of Phantom Liberty’s release and begin work exclusively on other projects like The Witcher 4 and the 2077 sequel, Cyberpunk: Orion.
However, over the last few months, a barrage of rumors abounded that CDPR was reinvesting in 2077 in the form of larger updates. This was confirmed when the satellite studio Virtuos was announced to be working on Cyberpunk 2077 for additional content. Now, what are they working on?
NOTE: The 2.3 update was delayed after initially being announced for June 26th.
WISHLIST FOR THE 2.3 UPDATE
What do YOU want to see for the possibly massive 2.3 update?
Here are a few things I’d personally like to see, regardless of how out there and unrealistic my choices are. This is a WISHlist after all.
Dynamic NCPD Scanner Jobs that randomly pop up around the map.
More interactions with untapped side characters like Bugbear, Chang-Hoon Nam, and Tiny Mike.
An extended gig chain with Panam and/or Judy.
The ability for you to call friends to hang out at spots around Night City to dance, drink, eat, race, .etc.
A legitimate happy ending for V that allows V AND Johnny Silverhand to live where V’s mind won’t get overwritten by Johnny, but he won’t be erased, either. So, you could live on in Night City with Johnny living harmlessly in your head.
The ability to pop the pill which would allow Johnny to “take over” on certain occasions. Johnny would have different abilities and conversation choices.
New Game+. This would be after the happy ending where V would be unleashed on Night City as a legend, with Johnny in their head and his/her romance at their side, and allow them to ride along with you around the city.
More dynamic inter-gang conflicts in the streets. I want to see more car chases that involve shooting that go beyond the few scripted ones already in the game.
Let me know what you think and what would be on YOUR wishlist for the 2.3 update for Cyberpunk 2077?
